today on 15th august 20xx india is celebrating its 67th independence day, and we indians are proud to say we have owned our freedom 67 years old back. as we gather here today i take the opportunity to congratulate every student and teacher of this school/college a happy independence day! i also take the opportunity of welcoming you our chief guest for today!

we have assembled here to celebrate our 67th independence day. as a citizen of india, i am so proud to talk to you about my mother india. on the night of august 14, 1947, pandit jawaharlal nehru rose to make a maiden speech in new delhi, “when the world sleeps, india will wake to life and freedom.” yes, india became free from the bondage of british rule. now, india is the largest democratic country in the world. the country’s strength is to find, “unity in diversity”. but, there are stray incidents that test her secularism but the people of india are ready to sacrifice anything for the cause of unity. today we remember the great leaders who gave their lives for the nation’s freedom and prosperity. dr. dkar gave the longest written constitution to us. pandit jawaharlal nehru worked for an industrialized india. gandhi ji taught us ahimsa and non-violence. subash chandra bose inducted courage in us. swami vivekanand gave us spiritual power. yes, with these contributions; india will be the super power in the coming years. our former president abdul kalam called the children of india to dream to build a strong nation with aim and perseverance. indeed! this is not a word of a single man. it is word of one billionsouls.

i say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, still have a dream. it is a dream deeply rooted in the american dream.

i have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its belief: "we hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."

i have a dream that one day on the red hills of georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood; i have a dream .....

that one day even the state of mississippi, a desert state suffering from the heat of unfairness, suffering from the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice; i have a dream

that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character; i have a dream today.

i have a dream that one day down in alabama, with its evii racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of interposition and invalidity, one day right there in alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers;

i have a dream that one day every valley shall be gone, every hill and mountain shall be made iow, and rough places will be made plane and crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.

it’s my great pleasure to stand here to present my speech—change the world, change ourselves.

it’s noticable that western holidays are becoming increasingly popular day by day, while chinese traditional festivals are being somewhat neglected. not long before about 10 doctors in beijing university and qinghua unversity announced that we should reject the invasion of western holidays ,because they regard western holidays as an challenge against our traditional festivals and culture.

frankly speaking, i don’t quite agree with ed, we should never neglect or even discard our traditonal festivals as china boasts a brilliant history and splendid traditions. (examples) why can’t we absorb the meaningful western holidays and culture.

there are obvious reasons why some western holidays are so popular in china. on the one hand, some of the western holidays which we chinese don’t have are reasonable and meaningful, such as father’s day and april fool’s day etc. on the other hand, the prevalence of globalization enables western culture to prevail in china. overwhelmed by such a trend, chinese unconsiciously get involved in western holidays and culture.

with the further development of the whole world, the cultural communication between different countries and nations becomes faster and more and more important. we are indeed from different nations, but we are the citizens of the same world, so the outstanding culture of different nations is the commom wealth of everyone on the only way for us to protect our traditional culture is to reject the foreign culture? the answer is definitely no. what we ought to do is to spare no effort to educate chinese to get to know and treasure our splendid traditions instead of rejecting foreign culture. only by educating can we set our confidence and belief towards our culture. only by educating can we preserve and promote the wealth that our ancesters left for us.

at last i’d like to share a famouse saying of gandhi with all of you ,that is:if you want to change the world, then you must change yourself first.”

the romantic love story——the film describes a love story between a harlot and a rich man. it is a fairy story about cinderella of modern version. being the he-ro-in-e in a fairy tale seems to be the dream of every girl since very young. all girls are looking forward to romantic love stories descending on them. the more impossible the love is going to happen, the happier the girl to be, which is definitely decided by the nature of girls. the most impressed things came to me in the film were the hero’s (richard gere) character. he was charming, a real confident man, so perfect, so charming, however, that didn’t make you think he was conceited or he was pretend to be attractive. as a matter of fact, he is an indeed gentleman, with a natural gentle manner. his charm actually comes from his inner refinement. his personality is a great magnet to the meanwhile, the difference between a rude woman and elegant women are obviously high lightened in this film, which i has paid attention to for a long time.

i was sound asleep. my grandfather appeared in a dream. he asked why i had never visited him and grandma at the cemetery. he said that even my mom hadn’t visited since october 4 (grandma’s birthday). he told me that, when i was young, i had walked out into a pond and slipped under water. he had rescued me. he said grandma was supposed to be watching me, but that she had gotten sick all of a sudden and was throwing up. it was probably the fresh blackberries they had picked and eaten earlier. grandma had a bad stomach.

my parents were out on a boat in the pond. they did not know that grandpa had saved me until they got back to shore. i was in a towel and my clothes were drying on bushes. my brown and white buster brown shoes were also soaked. i was only three years old, grandpa said. my parents were angry at first, but when they saw that grandma was still feeling sick, they forgave her.

grandpa told me that we had a picnic after that. the four of us ate some chicken, potato salad, and homemade cookies. we drank lemonade. then grandpa took me for a walk in the woods (i sat on his shoulders). i saw some daisies, and we picked them. when we returned, i presented three daisies to mom and three to grandma, who was finally feeling better. grandpa said to bring some daisies to the gravesite. then i woke up.

the next day, i called my mom. “do you remember me walking into the pond and grandpa rescuing me?”

“yes, but your father and i never told you about it because grandma swore us to silence. even though it wasn’t her fault, she felt that she had failed in her responsibility, and never wanted you to know about it. my goodness, that was so long ago. who told you this?”

“mom, did i go for a walk with grandpa and return with daisies for you and grandma?”

“okay, i get it. you and your dad are playing some kind of prank. okay, it’s very funny. now, quit it.”

“this is no prank, mom. grandpa told me this in a dream last night.”

“no, i’m serious. he told me that grandma had a reaction to blackberries. he said i was wearing brown and white buster brown shoes. he said i gave you and grandma daisies.”

“oh, my god. your father would never remember all this. it must be daddy! did he say anything about visiting his gravesite?”

“yes, that was his problem. he wanted me to visit them. he also said you had not visited since—”

“wait for me! i’m coming with you, and i’ve got to bring those daisies. maybe we’d better start going every year, huh, mom?”

“yes. there’s no telling what grandpa might tell you next time.”
